Oh my god you guys, I have totally become obsessed with The Originals with the last couple of episodes. And certain happenings on TVD have really reignited my interest in that show as well (even if Elena/Damon still makes me roll my eyes).

spoilers for all aired episodes of the originals and tvd )

Between these two shows and Teen Wolf seemingly back on track and much more enjoyable this season(b), I am very happy to have my teen supernatural shows back to being enjoyable instead of painful to watch.

It feels like it's been forever since I talked about TV. Sadly that's probably because not much has been super amazing this year. But, still, some stuff has been pretty enjoyable. And now I am OFFICIALLY on winter break, so I actually have some free time!

Still loving my comedies for the most part: Happy Endings, Parks & Rec, Go On. I've also been slowly watching Archer on Netflix, and, yes, it is pretty amazing. I've also been watching Arrow, Revolution, and Once Upon a Time (yay women!), but don't have much to say about them. They're enjoyable but I don't think about them much afterwards. Except for how I wish we lived in a time where Aurora and Mulan could actually have the intense love story that they are currently basically having anyway, who the fuck cares about Philipp. Also sometimes I watch a little of Supernatural after Arrow and I side-eye it so hard. Damn, show, what happened to you?

Question, guys: I feel this weird temptation to attempt to watch Star Trek... of some variety. I'm a little wary, because sci-fi of THAT level of cheese can be difficult for me to get into (I really had to work to persist through season one of Farscape, and I always get bored with the Stargates very quickly). But I may try, mostly because all of the TV series (and some of the movies) are on Netflix. It's just so easy! Anyway, we'll see how this goes. Any input from fans about jumping headfirst into things would be appreciated.

Also, so excited about Justified and Spartacus coming back in January! Well, also kind of more bracing myself for Spartacus.

First, here is my question: have you read any good long, plotty (or, like, fulfilling-delightful-cliche-y), preferably at some point smut-having (because I like to be honest with myself) fics lately? I'm weirdly jonesing for some Dean/Cas, but I am open to anything. I feel like I've kind of hit a fic wall.

Now, let's talk all about the sometimes awesome, sometimes boring, but not generally terrible television I've been watching this season.

I also watched the pilots of Arrow, Last Resort, and Elementary and enjoyed them, but I'll have to see if I have time to watch them. None of them were really must watch to me.

tvd finale

Someone talk about The Vampire Diaries finale with me!

spoilers )
sarkastic: (tvd - when you're the best of friends)
Let's talk about The Vampire Diaries. Warning: it gets a bit ranty. And rambling.

spoilers for last night's episode )
sarkastic: (jus - I'll be the fucking sheriff)
1. I started watching Lost Girl when I needed a break from the unrelenting realism of The Wire. And oh my god LOVE. So great. Bo/Kenzi OTP FOR LIFE. And I love Kenzi and Dyson's friendship! It's all just puppies and love and lots of sex! Until the Music of People Plotting Things starts up and someone says something vague and mysterious. But somehow it always comes back to adorable puppy-ness. Which is surprising for a show ostensibly concerned quite a bit with random, meaningless sex with strangers - it's actually really sweet. [I'm only six episodes in, so please don't spoil me!]

2. I realized I never posted my reaction to last week's TVD. spoilers )

3. Via a rec from [livejournal.com profile] gabby_silang, I've started reading the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud and am very much enjoying it. Bartimaeus may have the best use of fictional footnotes since Good Omens, and that is saying quite a bit from me.

4. JUSTIFIED. Cannot express in words how glad I am to have it back in my life. Also, I am always amused when reminded that I at some point chose the keywords "I'll be the fucking sheriff" for my Raylan icon.

5. I've started watching COLLEGE BASKETBALL. Who am I? But Indiana is doing pretty well this year, much better than in a LONG time, and I can't help but get swept up in the fervor. Plus it's nice to watch a sport where the games are always on American TV. So strange!
sarkastic: (tvd - when you're the best of friends)
Ugh, I'm sick! Of course! We couldn't have me going into a spring semester not sick, that would just shatter long-held tradition! Freshman year: horrific stomach bug/possible food poisoning that made me miss the first two days of class (in retrospect: least problematic days of class to miss! but terrifying to my freshman self). Sophomore year: I woke up with my eye all fucked up and a giant sty in it. WTF! Junior year: in the midst of a cold that would last two months, picked up on my hellacious plane ride from Vienna. And now another cold! Grrrrr. I've certainly had worse, but this is frankly egregious, universe! I've never been a fan of January. It's the Monday of months. (Although February is the Tuesday of months, and that's quite a bit worse.)

Anyway, I've been pretty out of it and bleh. But I did rewatch Sherlock and found it slightly more enjoyable this time - most of the problems I had with it became that much stronger upon a rewatch, but the good stuff also stuck out more. There was one little thing that I missed the first time that made me laugh way more than was called for. mildly spoilery )

Also, my somewhat embarrassing love of Hollyoaks continues, but with significantly less shame because the last few episodes have been kind of awesome. I fully expect them to fuck it up anytime now, but I have to say that I am enjoying it. Give me all the bizarre black and white flashbacks to gay hookups. And Ste appears to have rummaged around in his closet and found his long-missing backbone, so that's an exciting development.

Oh, and one little thing about last night's TVD. spoilers )

UGH. How can break be over already? And, yes, I realize most normal not-college-students have been at work all week. But... I still wish to voice my complaints.
sarkastic: (music - love you love you love you)
I decided it was time to do a State of the TV-I-am-watching address. These all contain spoilers up to the latest episode unless I say otherwise. I gave up on Glee and Ringer a few episodes into the season, and I have not watched any of Supernatural. Is SPN worth watching these days? I mostly just watched it for Castiel the last three seasons, and I gather things are not great in that quarter, so I'm not sure it's worth it for me. I don't think I can take another season of Sam and Dean crying in front of picturesque mountains and not talking about the same issues they've not talked about for seven years.

What the actual fuck, self. I watch way too much television. I am also watching Up All Night and Grimm, but I don't have much to say about them other than they are enjoyable. And I'm also watching Misfits, but I'm behind on it so I will talk about that at some later point.

HOLY SHIT VAMPIRE DIARIES

WTF TELEVISION JUST BROKE ME FOR REALITY. WHO BRINGS THIS GOOD OF SHIT FOR THEIR FOURTH/FIFTH EPISODES? WTFFFFFFFF.

I AM ACTUALLY BROKEN.

SERIOUSLY TVD THAT COULD'VE BEEN A SEASON FINALE. PLEASE SOMEONE HOLD ME WHILE I DEAL WITH HOW AMAZING TVD IS GOING TO BE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
sarkastic: (tvd - ot3 bloody your hands on a cactus)
1. I'm going home next weekend for my my and her twin sister's birthday AND my lovely sister [livejournal.com profile] cetacea and my parents visiting me at school on Wednesday so I am very antsy to get through to then because I am sure next weekend is going to be an awesome time. And I am going to bake a ton, which I have severely missed in my inadequate kitchen in my apartment. Going from being able to use my mom's KitchenAid to handheld mixers is a bit of a shock to the system. I'm so lazy.

2. So I've kind of become a Tony/Steve (Avengers) shipper, even though I have never actually consumed source material where they interacted at all. .... But the fic really works for me! Anyway, what should I find in my Entertainment Weekly this week, but a giant picture of them together. I need this movie to come out yesterday. Even if it disappoints, it will still be awesome because it has Tony Stark, Loki, Thor, Steve Rogers, and Nick Fury in it. I will just focus on that.

3. Can we talk about The Vampire Diaries, two other people who watch TVD on my flist? Pleaaaaase. I need someone to talk with. spoilers up to latest episode )

4. Also Liverpool beat Everton. I would've preferred a victory against 11 men, but I am not complaining. And seeing Stevie G on the pitch made me all ♥_♥. Also the whole thing with de Gea and the donut? I laugh for days. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaays.
sarkastic: (btvs - it all comes full circle)
Fall TV returned! Oh happy day. No more subsisting on nothing but True Blood. I also watched the pilots of a few of the new shows. Oh, CW. I think I'll also give Grimm and Once Upon a Time a try. So predictable, self.

The Secret Circle )

Ringer )

The Vampire Diaries )

Oh my god, Liverpool. Eek. I contemplated waking up for that game, and I actually got up at 8 or whatever and saw they were a goal and a man down, and I was like, well. Back to bed it is. I swear, every weekend Stuttgart win, Liverpool lose and vice versa. *sigh* These are the times when I just try really hard to think about the Nationalmannschaft.

Also, the Emmys tonight! Yaaaaay! My one wish is that Margo Martindale wins for Best Supporting Actress, but I realize that is probably a pipe dream. *sigh* I would love to see some of The Good Wife people win as well.
sarkastic: (mer - she's liable to grow up mean)
So, I've had this idea for a Vampire Diaries Ocean's 11!AU festering in my brain for awhile and just had to do SOMETHING with it. But I could never write heist fic, and I barely trust myself with any of the TVD characters. So I just made this... sort of crappy picspam. And gave all the characters tokens or something? I guess this is also an Inception crossover? THE SCENE OF THE CRIME IS KLAUS' MIND. It can be whatever you want it to be. But let it be known that it is also my dream season three. IF ONLY! I brought back some people from the dead as well. Also, I didn't really mean for this to be a match to the O11 characters' personalities, just their roles in the heist. Although some kind of fit. Anyway, I think this would be equally awesome as a heist AU totally separate from the show or just a REALLY GREAT season three with lots of stylish suits and big band music and witty banter.

This was going to be Salvatore's 11 originally but then I thought it would be ten times more awesome to make it Gilbert's 11 and have Stefan be Tess. Elena and Damon must save him from his poor life choices! (Can you photoshop your life with better decisions, Stefan?) But Stefan doesn't split eleven ways, so also... profit?? Surprise, Klaus runs a successful chain of casinos! Even thousand year old vampires gotta pay them bills!

Basically this is really ridiculous self-indulgent crack that will probably only amuse me. But I am amused enough at least ten people so it's okay. :D

Man, why don't I control TV?

1. I am back from Maine! Saw HP, and was surprisingly unaffected. I think I got my closure when I reread the books this summer. We also went to a queer-friendly burlesque show, which I walked out of thinking I had just seen a kink meme brought to life. And I watched the World Cup final. :(((( Love those women with all my heart though. Still, my question to myself afterwards was, "What the fuck? Are we England now?" I'm so used to supporting Germany and having 99% confidence about PK shootouts. It was weird. Oh well. Olympics, here we come! I also got to see my dear sister and we talked about ASOIAF most of the time. It was awesome! :D

2. Speaking of ASOIAF, I started A Dance with Dragons but so far haven't made tons of progress. GRRM books always take me awhile to get into because of how slow the pace always seems to be at the beginning. Plus I haven't been waiting like six years for this so my need is not so urgent. But I'm sure once it gets going I will devour it.

3. I've also been watching Sirens and loving it, not SOLELY because it involves Robb Stark having a lot of gay sex. But that is a perk. I just watched the last two eps of GoT today and got a bit of whiplash when Robb showed up looking all ferocious serious warrior, heh. But anyway, you should watch it! The last episode had a bunch of stuff about sexual power dynamics and explicit ordering of the main characters into a pack, with an alpha, beta, etc. And it has gay Robb Stark.

Also, I really want to make a GoT vid to Arcade Fire's "In the Backseat" all about, as I like to call it, the Stark diaspora, and the kids being ripped from childhood and forced to grow up fast. It would probably make me cry every 15 seconds though. Also I don't know how to vid. And would have to wait until, like, season four of the show for all the appropriate materials.

4. Also loving Suits so much! I tend to get annoyed by those cutesy, everything-is-sunny-and-pretty USA shows after a few episodes, but I really like this one. Also, so gay! And, like, how are there not a million d/s fics yet, is my question. This show is somehow really kinky without ever being explicitly sexual. Or possibly I am a pervert?

5. The last issue of Entertainment Weekly has reminded me how awesome 2012 is going to be movie-wise. We get The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises with half the cast of Inception, FINALLY some new Daniel Craig James Bond, The Avengers, and reboots of Spider-Man and Superman which will probably suck but could be enjoyable. Excuse me while I geek to death. (You know, I've come to the conclusion that I will never enjoy a retelling of Superman that makes Lex Luthor into a joke or cardboard cutout evil. I like my Lex sympathetic, even if he is crazy. He has legit reasons for not wanting to sign the world over to the control of an all-powerful alien who could kill them all without breaking a sweat, okay?)

6. Still showing TVD to a friend, and can I just say how much evil glee I had leading up to the final moments of the S1 finale? That twist is still fucking brilliant and I love seeing people's unspoiled reactions to it. Lots of HOLY SHIT and WHAT THE FUCK and BUT HOW?! Heehee. A CW show is smarter than you. Just accept that and move on. I'm also getting excited for the new regular TV season, even though it means an end to my ~life of summer leisure~.
sarkastic: (got - blood of the dragon)
1. I've been taking it slow with A Storm of Swords. I think I got a little fatigued by reading the first two so fast AND watching the show. So I am taking it slow. Also I think at some point I realized that I was going to have to wait possibly more than ten years to get any real resolution to this story and I was like WELL FUCK. Plus everything was real depressing for awhile but it's picked back up again, so I'm not like NOTHING IS BEAUTIFUL AND EVERYTHING HURTS every time I turn a page. I think I will save my specific thoughts until I finish the whole book, though.

2. I introduced a friend to The Vampire Diaries so we've been slowly making our way through S1 (she's completely addicted of course - resistance is futile!). I miss the slow burn of building friendship and trust between Elena and Damon, before Damon went all Damon-y on that. Stupid Damon. So many times I just want to shake him. WHAT WHAT WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

3. I've been loving the Women's World Cup. Germany in particular play some beautiful football. And the games, in general, have been so much fun to watch. Almost no diving! Near total unpredictability as to who will win and how! And I just love watching so many talented women so very obviously delighted beyond words at representing their country and playing with their friends and living their dreams. There's something so genuine about women's football that died long, long ago in the men's sport. You can look at these women's faces and it's like looking back however many years and seeing a little girl achieving everything she ever dreamed of. I love it.

4. I probably won't post again before the 4th of July, as we're going to be having no less than six house guests (although two of those are my sister and her boyfriend - and all of them are people I like!) and we're hosting the increasingly gigantic family party for the 4th. But it should be great! I anticipate being slightly buzzed and really full for the next four or so days. Since my dad has given up on me ever liking beer, he just buys me wine instead. Fine with me! Especially when he goes to the big liquor store and gets Austrian wine. Mmmmm Grüner Veltliner.

5. I would kill for an Alicia from The Good Wife vid to this song (Irreplaceable by Beyonce). Also I love Beyonce's vaguely gay all woman band. And Beyonce in general.

Have a Collection of Random Thoughts With Peggy:

1. Here's my problem with the idea of Messi, or for that matter Ronaldo, being the best player in the world. Yes, Messi is truly amazing most of the time for Barcelona. It would be hard to argue that he ISN'T the best club player in the world. However, he really doesn't do shit for Argentina. How can someone be the best player in the world if they contribute so little to their country? I realize that with the amount of money involved in clubs they've started to take on a greater importance than country, but, quite frankly, fuck that. If a player never finds success in international football, no matter how amazing they are in club football, and, perhaps most importantly, if they're from a country that actually stands a chance in international football (which Argentina very much does), I don't know, to me that success is incomplete. I know that attitude is a result of my own personal belief that country is just as important, if not more, than club, and a lot of people don't share that attitude.

2. Angry Man Utd fans scare me. I'm like, okay, you beat our record, why are you still so angry? Mein Gott. Also, I surprisingly don't care that much. It's annoying, but. Eh. I'm just so happy to be in love with my team again. Anyway, it's way more exciting to win when you don't do it every other season. And I know about these things, I'm a White Sox fan. :)

3. I always forget how awful the ferret scene is in Goblet of Fire. Malfoy is not a nice kid, I get it, but he is also fourteen years old and being tortured and humiliated and JKR treats it as something comical. SO MUCH SIGHING. Hogwarts makes itself into a breeding ground for future Death Eaters by supporting such an atmosphere of hostility and distrust in these kids from the age of 10. Everyone from Dumbledore on down barring Snape treats any person sorted into Slytherin like the Enemy-in-Making, a second class student. Of course it's going to build up resentment and rage. Does that make it okay to turn into a murdering racist asshole? Nope. But, damn, it's frustrating how very far a little human kindness might've gotten "the good guys". Why does no one ever listen to the Sorting Hat! If it's our choices that define us, stop assuming Slytherins have already made it when they're barely preteens!

Also I find myself having a hankering for Draco & Narcissa fics. NOT incest, but I would love to know more about their relationship, develop it from the huge part it played in the final battle. I think, despite JKR's obvious hatred for Slytherins and Draco in particular, it makes them both about ten times more sympathetic (if you weren't already in love with them like I am).

4. I finally got around to watching the Skins series 5 finale. It was disappointing, and I am starting to slide back into disliking most of these characters. Oh well.

5. I forgot how truly awful the pilot of The Vampire Diaries is. The diary voiceovers! The terrible dialogue! Bonnie is kind of mean and has awful hair! Caroline is a total ditz! Stefan is creepy! Jeremy is a little bitch! So much terrible CW emo music moments! Tyler is a semi-abusive jerk! Vicki takes up screentime! Alaric does not exist! I couldn't even watch the whole thing. I just had to skip to the episode where Elena finds out and it starts to become bearable.

I think those are all my thoughts. It's been a gripping day.
