sarkastic: (tw - d/s hole in my head)
1. Oh my god, Teen Wolf is so good to us. I was worried the show would lose some of its ridiculousness in regards to older men who want to Bad Touch Stiles, or it would make Derek into an asshole since he became alpha or something, but my fears were unfounded! Derek just wants to save people from their abusive fathers and bake a cake out of rainbows and smiles so they could all eat it and be happy. And of course older men continue to perv on Stiles in a manner that is frankly shocking! Seriously, where is the Veela!Stiles fic that explains why all these older men are constantly hardcore perving on this kid? Also the Stiles and Derek scenes in last night's episode were so good for me. Scott continues to be one of the stupider people alive.

2. I'm at the beginning of season 2 in my Lost rewatch. "Henry Gale" just showed up. Ben pretending to be scared of the Losties is such comedy gold in retrospect. And then he's like CREEPY EVIL STARE at Sayid when no one else is looking because he knows Sayid ain't buying it. Also, I forgot how great Eko was. Why did they kill him off so early? Le sigh.

Also also, everything romantic with Sawyer before Juliet I'm just like FAST FORWARD. I don't even care. PERFECT COUPLE.

3. Let's talk Game of Thrones finale. As always, it will probably have book spoilers. game of thrones finale )

4. Also, I got the new Nightrunner book, but I haven't had any time to read much of it yet. Gay fairy thieves! How I missed you. :D

1. I’ve been really frustrated with Game of Thrones lately. I fully understand that they have to make changes from the books, and that’s fine. It’s when they make changes that, to me, completely alter the characterization of a particular person, done for no reason that I can see, that I get frustrated. But I got the season 2 soundtrack, and a few of the song titles gave me hope that some things will be included that I thought they’d cut. There are some things that HAVE to happen with certain characters like Arya, that they’ve skipped. Unless they plan on completely altering her story in the last two books, there’s a rather important scene missing. But I guess they have two episodes left. Also the last song on the soundtrack has me very excited (potentially spoilery song title). PUKING FROM EXCITEMENT.

2. I’m doing a rewatch of Lost. Just, god. I love these people so much. It’s almost embarrassing, because I never expected in a million years for this show to have such a strong emotional hold on me. It just kind of crept up on me, and then I was sobbing for two and a half hours straight during the finale and it was incredibly undignified, but also super cathartic. It was a good cryfest. I never expected to be totally in love with a character like Sawyer, who was such a cliche for awhile but grew up into a Big Damn Hero and became a genuinely good, loving guy who sacrificed himself for his friends, and fell in love with the most fantastic woman on this entire show, who suffered so much but endured it with grace and badassery and snark. And Sayid and Locke and Jin & Sun and DESMOND and Hurley and Ben Linus and RICHARD ALPERT and Charlie and Claire and the Freighties and even boring old Jack and Kate, I even grew to like them too. OH SHOW.

But it’s really funny to watch them all at the beginning, when really important characters have to introduce themselves. Like, “Hi! I’m John Locke!” “Oh hey John, I’m Jack! I’m certain we won’t be locked into a battle of dueling ideologies in a few months!” “Seems legit!”

3. I’m really sad about Community and how the show as we know it is over. :((( This is really the worst of all possible outcomes, because they gave us that hope, then they took it away and replaced it with some ersatz crap that they thought would fool us. At least the end of season 3 made a good series finale. I will watch season 4, but I think, like [ profile] sparky77, I am going to be viewing it as just live action fanfic. I have been a fan of shows that get rid of the creative heart of the show - like West Wing - and it’s just depressing to watch. I don’t even remember what happened in the last three seasons of TWW because I’ve never had any desire to rewatch it.

Day 02 — Your favorite episode

The Constant

So unoriginal of me, I know. But it's one of everyone's favorite episodes for a reason, and that's because it's Lost at its best: mixing a fantastic character study with brilliant island mythology. This episode especially worked in a season where the timelines were all jumbled to hell anyway. DESMOND AND PENNY. I find it hilarious that the (romantic) relationships I cared about most on this show (Desmond/Penny and Sawyer/Juliet) were the ones given the smallest amounts of screentime. As compared to the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle, which was in practically every episode until S6, and which almost always bored me to tears.

I'm doing the Lost 30 Days meme, because, like [ profile] fledmusic who I stole this from, it's all I think about right now anyway!

Day 01 — Your favorite quote(s)

Faraday: I think Eloise's brain short-circuited. The jumps between the present and the future eventually, she eventually, she couldn't tell which was which. She had no anchor.
Desmond: What do you mean, "anchor"?
Faraday: Something familiar in both times. All this, see all this is all variables. It's random; it's chaotic. Every equation needs stability, something known. It's called a "constant." Desmond, you have no constant. When you go to the future nothing there is familiar. So if you want to stop this, then you need to find something there, something that you really, really care about, something that also exists back here in 1996.
Desmond: This constant, can it be a person?

Desmond: Can you get me some clothes?
Hurley: What happened to yours?
Desmond: I woke up in the jungle like this.
Hurley: So, like, the hatch blew off your underwear?

"I'll see you in another life, brother."

Ugh, I decided to begin my epic rewatch of Lost now because I could not control myself and aaaaaaaaaaaagh this pilot. Okay, first of all it has to be one of the best pilots of a television show ever made, regardless of what you think of the rest of the series. And it's so weird going from the series finale to when none of them even knew each other and Sawyer was still Grumpy Hick Guy who steals stuff and ONLY A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THEM HAD KILLED A PERSON. And there's no Ben or Richard or Juliet or Freighter People or ~Jacob~. Nobody even knows Jacob's fucking name. Nobody knows anyone's name. (But seriously? The change in Sawyer's character from beginning to end of this show is probably the most hugely glaring difference when going from finale to pilot, at least character wise.)

1. I watched Justified, and can I just say? Timothy Olyphant, you make me feel aroused in new and exciting ways. Can I just... climb on you? For, like, a minute? Please? But seriously, I highly recommend the show. I loved the terse, dry humor and atmosphere. And this character is like a Seth Bullock much more comfortable with his moral ambiguity. Like he would just smile killing you and not have to go through the whole rage blackout, clenched jaw, walking around with a rod shoved up his ass thing first.

2. mild lost spoilers )

3. I like Barcelona and I root for them in La Liga, but I gotta say, when they're playing my team, who also happen to be huge underdogs (as any German team not named Bayern Munich is) - well, I can kinda see why some people hate them, is all. But I'm not actually all that disappointed with the CL results. Chelsea and Real Madrid out this early? Excuse me while I wallow in my schadenfreude. Maybe the Arsenal bbs will actually be able to get their act together. That's probably who I'll be rooting for, mostly because Barca need to share the wealth. But I would be happy if they won it too. Really, the only team I would be pissed about winning it is Man U. I would even be okay if Bayern won because maybe people would take the Bundesliga seriously for two seconds.

4. And continuing the football theme, because I've seen people doing it already, and it's never too early.

I am still smiling with blissful joy from Lost because I just really enjoy being mindfucked by it. I think I need a cigarette now. some spoilery thoughts )

I've also been rewatching Band of Brothers as HBO reairs it ahead of The Pacific, and this time I think I'm really, really falling in love. The first time it's just a struggle to take everything in and figure out who everyone is and what the fuck is going on (at least for me, maybe I am dumb). But this time I was smart and found a guide with all the characters identified by picture. \o/ Although I still get really confused about rank and what people's actual jobs are. To be honest I think the military will always be a mystery to me. I've watched Generation Kill how many times now and I still don't really know what everyone's position is. SAD REALLY.

But anyway. THE LOVE. Too much of it to tell. (Also slashing Winters/Nixon like woah, which I don't think I got around to doing the first time.)

Also, I'm not gonna lie, this John Terry shit is cracking me the fuck up. When I try to explain it to people I just realize how it is the most ridiculous and trashy soap opera crap to ever come true in real life. If you don't know what I'm talking about, there is a handy graphic here to explain things. If they give the captaincy to Stevie G for this I will laugh for daaaaaaaaaaaays. Cheating on your wife with your best friend's girlfriend > punching people in night clubs because they won't play Phil Collins. Oh, England NT. STAY CLASSY, GUYS.

Hey, guys? You know what premieres on Tuesday? DID YOU KNOW THAT THE MOTHERFUCKING FINAL SEASON OF LOST PREMIERES ON TUESDAY? I am so verklempt with emotion. I am insanely excited to finally get some answers and so, so very incredibly happy to have a show back that I love and where I actually give a shit about the characters. Because, let's be honest, the only time I give a shit about the characters on SPN is when Castiel is around. Totally repetitive manpain can only affect a person so many times. BUT I AM ALSO HEARTBROKEN. Because it's all going to end soon. These people that I somehow, despite all my best judgement and fannish cynicism, came to love and adore so much. They will be gone forever and the Lost writers are sick fucks so who knows what horrid things they will do to them.

I love these psychotic crazy motherfuckers. Even the boring-as-fuck ones who just cry about how their daddies didn't love them. EVEN JACK THOSE GUYS. What would my life be without Jack crying in a rainy jungle? WHAT WOULD MY LIFE BE WITHOUT BEN LINUS' CREEPY FUCKING EYES AS HE TORTURES BUNNIES? Without Josh Holloway being forced to walk around shirtless 90% of the time for absolutely no reason? Without Juliet Burke shooting people dead and being like, "Fuck those bastards I'm not gonna cry in a rainy jungle over it"? WITHOUT RICHARD ALPERT'S NATURAL EYELINER AND JOHN LOCKE'S CONSTANT RELIGIOUS FLIP-FLOPPING AND SAYID KILLING PEOPLE WITH HIS FUCKING THIGHS? JESUS H. CHRIST THIS SHOW. Oh god and Penny and Des's epic Odyssey love story and Daniel's floppy hair and Richard ~taking Ben's innocence~ and surprisingly sexy Jacob and --

This show. I fucking love you show, two shitty seasons and all. BRING ON THE CRAZY. FUCKING. SHIT.

In my efforts to cheer myself up after about sixty really depressing/draining season/series finales and the mothertrucking Mancs winning another goddamn title, have some random things that make me happy!

1. I think all the Lost characters who were left on the island most likely formed an ABBA cover band at the Dharma Farma - before ABBA had even really reached the height of their popularity. This is like Bret and Jemaine going back in time and giving David Bowie his own songbook before he even wrote the songs. And also Hurley rewriting Empire Strikes Back, obviously. Anyway, this is clearly the best idea I have ever had and I will let the Lost writers know about it tout de suite. I told [ profile] thehangedwoman all of this but she wasn't listening. :/

"Lay All Your Love On Me" = the anthem of Sawyer and Juliet's love
"Does Your Mother Know?" = Richard Alpert's serenade to young!Ben when he ~took his innocence~
"Dancing Queen" = a scene where Miles is reluctantly forced to play the tambourine and Juliet plays the Casio Electric keyboard For Love but she grimaces through the whole thing
"Mamma Mia!" = clearly Sawyer's conflicted reaction to the Oceanic 6 - Jack or Kate, take your slash/het pick

Clearly this is a brilliant plan concocted by LAFLEUR to get them to blend in better. Just imagine trying to convince Miles to get into one of those suits. Jin on guitar! Confession: this all stems from my desire to see a Lost musical. I feel like it would work out a lot of people's issues. I only wish that Hurley and Sayid had been there to be conscripted into the singing ranks.

2. You know the Crossroads Demon on Supernatural? How long do those contracts last until the hell hounds come calling to collect their end of the deal? 'Cause I feel like Fergie's time has GOT to be up soon. Isn't it twenty years? Hmmm, it'll be close to twenty years soon since Fergie started really winning things with the Mancs.

Look, I'm just throwing thoughts out there okay?

3. Band of Brothers is pretty enjoyable, even though I'm not a big fan of dramatized war-related media - I prefer it in Ken Burns documentary form. I do find World War II more interesting to study than most wars (probably because it's so recent and, like most people who live in the "world" of WWII, I had a lot of relatives involved in it; to be honest, I think my father's side of the family may have barely escaped fighting for the Germans instead of against them if we'd emigrated a bit later), and BoB is a fantastic work in its own right. I mean, the coloring alone stuns me so much sometimes that I forget I'm watching a violent battle. I have trouble following the plot sometimes because I really don't know shit about the military or warfare. I tend to zone out during those parts of basically anything and just show up when people start talking again. But I figure if I could understand enough of Generation Kill to get the general plot, I can definitely get through this. Also, Damien Lewis is breathtakingly beautiful. There is just no other word to describe that man, and I don't know how I didn't see it before.

4. Eric Northman. Let's have a lot of sex.

5. This picture.

6. Star Trek and Fast & Furious, both of which I saw this week and both of which brought the Awesome and the Gay in spades.

I have mainly one thought on tonight's Lost.

spoilers )
sarkastic: (mer - arthur lol)
1. I was supposed to read Oedipus at Colonus (bleh) before going to dinner but instead I am watching an endless series of History Channel specials on Abraham Lincoln. At the end of the last one this historian was narrating the moment of Lincoln's death and he started getting all choked up and I was like, "Awww, poor historian man! I'm sorry this pain is still too real for you!" I love people who love some historical subject enough that it can make them cry as if they actually knew the people involved. It's like crying over fanfic (except, uh, the people are real) but you get paid for it and you get to be on History Channel. P.S. I say this as someone who can and has cried over ancient history, so I am not mocking but loving. *g*

2. I think I figured out part of why I'm loving Merlin/Arthur so much and reading so much Merlin fanfic: I genuinely love both the boys as characters on their own. It's not a case of, "Oh, I'll put up with Character B because I adore Character A and they're infatuated with B" which is how I feel about a lot of my OTPs. I adore both of them and look forward to the day when their gay love saves Camelot. Plus it doesn't hurt that, especially considering the fandom's been around for less than half a year, there's tons of fic and good fic at that. Yay fandom migration!

3. Lost has been so much fun this season. let's talk about that )

4. I shared my theories of Xabi Alonso's stubble growth with [ profile] toronja and [ profile] randomeliza and now I feel I can share it with the rest of the class.
