[livejournal.com profile] quiet_rebel asked me about couples I ship on The Originals.

I'm all about the OT4 on this show. By which I mean, Klaus/Rebekah/Elijah/Hayley. One big happy Original family. I, like Elijah, just want everyone to stop fighting and be friends again. Raise your adorable magic vampire werewolf hybrid baby together in joy and happiness! Try to avoid letting an old enemy kidnap it and take it to hell and raise it to hate you and collect ears though. Just some advice.

Within the OT4, I've really been enjoying the Elijah/Hayley stuff. I've always felt like the Originals were kind of... huge idiots when it comes to falling in love. Despite the fact that they're so old and have seen so much, they still idealize the people they fall in love with in this really dangerous way. Elijah is no exception, as he demonstrated with Katherine and as he's shown endlessly with Klaus (whether or not he's *in* love with him, he still loves him). That's the only kind of relationship Rebekah seems capable of, and Klaus has a tendency to idealize the women he falls in love with too. So anyway, what I really like about Elijah/Hayley is that she won't let him get away with that. She's too much of a realist - and she's in a unique position of power that I doubt any other human or vampire ever has been with the Original Fam. Because all of the still-living Originals are deeply invested in her well-being, at least until she has that baby (although I do think definitely Elijah and Rebekah and maybe Klaus are invested afterward too). Although she's Klaus' prisoner right now, she can do and say things that no one else could ever get away with. And she's kind of been let into their inner circle in an unprecedented way.

So, anyway, my point is that even though there are still huge power differentials between Hayley and the Originals, she is the closest a non-Original could get to being on equal playing ground with them, which makes her relationships with them and especially Elijah so much more interesting. Although it has the potential to be a tragic immortal/mortal love story unless the baby really does have magic doppelgänger blood.

I really wish Rebekah could stop falling in love with idiots who don't respect her and basing her self-worth on it though. I wish I trusted Julie Plec to be building up to some storyline where Rebekah could realize she don't need no man, but, uh, I'm not getting my hopes up, to say the least.
